As we age, several things begin to happen to the structure of our skin:

  • loss of collagen and elastin in the skin
  • breakdown of the fat pads under the skin
  • slowing down of cell-turnover

these three factors lead to visible changes to the face and neck:

  • fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes and mouth
  • heavier appearance around the jowl area
  • loss of plumpness and taughtness in the skin
  • dullness of the skin

fortunately all of these factors can be addressed by clinical procedures and good homecare.

Loss of collagen and elastin.

At vitality, we can help you to increase the amount of collagen and elastin your skin can produce by clinical procedures and by using certain homecare products.

Clinical procedures include Dermaroller and Sculptra.

Home care products include retinol and spfmoisturisers.

Breakdown of fat pads under the skin.

Whilst we can’t prevent this process from happening, we can revolumise the face to help to rebalance the face and lift the jowl area slightly.

clinical procedures include fillers, sculptra and radiesse.

Slowing down of cell turnover.

Once we reach our twenties our cell turnover is already in decline. The surface layer of the skin (stratum corneum) is approximately 5 cells thick in a young, healthy skin. By the time we reach our forties, this layer is approximately 20 cells thick. The dead skin cells just sit on the surface of the skin and leave it looking dull and lackluster.

Because the skin is continually renewing itself, the ideal way to address this problem is with an easy homecare solution. Vitality sells an excellent chemical microderm abrasion kit which can be used weekly to address the problem of cell build up. This will leave your skin soft and glowing.
